24 weeks- Viability Day 3

Today you are 24 weeks…. Viability Day!   Viability day means that in general if you were to be born today you’d have over a 50% chance of survival.   BUT don’t get any wise ideas, you had better staying cooking for the next 15-16 weeks, so you can be strong and healthy when you’re born.

Today you are over a foot long, and weigh up to a pound and a half.  You’re still working on plumping up.   You continue to kick up a storm, your Dad and I like to watch you move all around.  Your Dad even put his ear to my belly (and you kicked him) and he said he could hear the “thump.”  We’ve been doing more hard work on the house getting ready for you.  The whole garage is getting reorganized because we no longer have a guest room to store things in.  We now have a nursery!   Or at least a room with paint on the walls, a newly organized closet, and pictures lying on the floor.  Your Dad got excited when he saw a sale on clothes on his way home from work (I wasn’t with him) so he bought you some things.   You might be wearing sandals in the middle of winter, but they sure are cute!  :)

Speaking of being born, your due date is July 23rd.  Here are some interesting facts about that day:

  • Zodiac Sign:  Leo
  • Birthstone: Ruby
  • Birth Flower: Larkspur or Water_Lily
  • Chinese Zodiac: The Black Water Dragon
  • This time next year you will be 36 Weeks Old!
  • If you are born on 7/23/2012 will start kindergarten in 2017, be old enough to drive a car in 2028, finish high school in 2030, and will graduate from college with the class of 2034, give or take a year.  Can you imagine?

On this day in history:

  • William Austin Burt patents the typographer (which eventually leads to the invention of the Typewriter) in 1829
  • The Province of Canada is created in 1840
  • The Ford Motor Company sells its first car in 1903

Hehehe…we looked up facts about Max’s birthday while I was being admitted. We saw that Bono was born on that day, so Steven kept playing U2 songs while I was in labor. Not annoying at all.

    Hey Sarah, Will and baby,
I am so glad to “hear” that everything is going well. Soon you will be holding this VERY tiny being and wondering….what now? :-). It sure is a trip. Kai is starting to sit up by himself and is fussy (hopefully just teething and not a personality trait!). And he is only five months. It goes so fast. Thinking of the three of you and maybe someday we’ll get to visit again in real life.
    Take care
