Lucas- December 2014 1

Hey my baby,

December was full of fun for you!  Of course our favorite Holiday of the year is Christmas and this was the first year that you were excited about decorating and Santa coming to visit, and all the fun stuff that goes along with the holiday season.   We started off the month by decorating the house.  Our tradition is to turn on Christmas music and drink C.F. Burger’s eggnog.  You LOVED the eggnog.  You kept begging for more so you could say Cheers! and clink glasses with me.  You were fascinated by the Christmas tree, and liked taking off the bottom ornaments and rearranging them all to one spot.   You were also obsessed with Frosty the Snowman, and so we bought a blow up one for our front yard.  You thought it was so cool that you had your very own Frosty!  You would beg to go in to the front yard to hug him.   You loved the songs Jingle Bells, and Frosty the most.   Oh! And you also got to watch Polar Express at your Aunt Jera and Uncle Kevin’s house.  You were thoroughly enthralled and about had a stroke when Aunt Jera pulled out your very own bell from Santa’s sleigh.  You wanted to sleep with it! haha!   Since it was the holiday season, we wanted to continue our family tradition of giving to others.   This year we donated to 2 different causes.  One was a young mother with two small children who was just diagnosed with breast cancer, and the other was to the family of another young mother whose children were recently left orphaned.   Although we always want to give to others, we use the holiday season as a good reminder to take action.

Another Christmas tradition (first time this year!) that you loved was your Elf on the Shelf “Elfie” that came to visit you every day.  He would watch you to make sure you were being a good boy, and being nice to others.   We read the book about Elfie coming to our house, and then all of a sudden he appeared on your very own bookcase!  Even though the rules said you aren’t allowed to touch him, you were so excited to see him that we let you sleep with him that night, and asked Santa to give him back his magic powers the next day.  Every morning you would crack up to see where he had moved to and was hiding next.    You also got to meet Santa for the first time.  You even sat on his lap!   You weren’t too sure about it at first, but then managed a smile for the camera.

You’ve had a lot of fun with your tools helping Daddy put together Emme’s room.  You especially loved working on her crib with your Daddy.  You love to screw stuff in, hammer stuff, saw stuff, and make stuff.  Just like Daddy does.    We went to family Christmas in TN the weekend before Christmas and you loved getting to see your Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and Grandparents.  You kissed everyone, and hugged everyone, and enjoyed playing with all of your new toys.   On Christmas Eve we drove into Louisville, don’t worry though, Santa knew we were going and delivered allll of your toys to Louisville instead of our house!  Christmas Eve we put you in your new pair of traditional Christmas jammies, and we made milk and cookies for Santa.  We also made a giant pot of crock pot hot chocolate, although you were already in bed by the time it was ready.

That night, Santa came and delivered tons and tons of presents.  You had a great time opening your gifts, and playing with all of your new stuff.  We had our traditional blueberry pancakes with whip cream, and then changed out of our Christmas jammies to get ready for our extended family Christmas.  Aunt Christe, Uncle Randy, Uncle Potter, Slater, Kelly and Max came over, and of course you loved the extra attention.    It was a great holiday season, ending with New Years Eve.  You went to a party with us, and loved blowing the horns and socializing with all the people there.   2014 was a pleasure to have you as our son, and 2015 is going to rock your world with the addition of your baby sister, who you’ve been anxiously awaiting.

We love you so much Lucas Walter.  Sometimes it’s hard to put into words what you mean to us.  Here’s to 2015 being even better than 2014… cheers!

Great job Sarah – he is just so adorable. I love him listening to your boob!
I also loved Elfie- so cute. Christmas is really all about Little children –
One year we baked a Birthday Cake for Jesus. (kids idea) then on Christmas we sang Happy Birthday. So many precious memories. I can barely walk by girl baby clothes without wanting to buy them for you. Steve has a serious girl she is 40 something (he is 45) This may be the year! Nick is still engaged to Barb.
I’m so BABY crazy I can hardly stand it. Think of you so often. When is due date?
