Emelyn- 26 Week Belly Update 1

Hi Baby Girl!

You have been growing in my belly for 26 weeks now.  It’s going slow, and fast all at the same time.  I can’t believe in approximately 14 weeks we will have a daughter!  I still can’t wrap my mind around it!  A baby girl all of our very own.    I can’t wait to snuggle you and hold you for hours on end.  I hope you’re a sweet baby.  You’re super active in my belly, so I’m a tad nervous you’re going to come out and start bouncing around the walls.     Daddy gets to feel you move all the time, and you always show off for him.  This morning Lucas was rubbing my belly, and said “Hiiiii baby sister” and you promptly woke up and kicked his hand!    You love your brother already!

Speaking of your brother, he calls you “Emme” and it is so sweet.   We have had a hard time deciding on the spelling of your nickname.  I put up an online poll to my friends, and the results were clear!  Emme it is!   (I actually had two seperate pollings going… on my main facebook page it was 25/8 Emme vs. Emmy.    Added together with the other poll in a private moms group the grand total was 42/25.  Thus EMME is our winner.

Lucas and Emelyn Atkinson…. brother and sister…. we think those names are awesome, beautiful, and unique (while not being weird).

This past weekend we had a scare with you and ended up spending several hours at the hospital in the labor & delivery hall.  I was having contractions every 3 minutes or so, and we were worried something might be wrong.  Thank goodness all ended up being fine! They think possibly you were stuck sideways and my uterus was mad about it and was contracting to try to get you to move.  Don’t give us a scare like that again baby girl!  Just keep baking like you’re supposed to until the end of February! And now, without further ado, here is this month’s belly update:

Belly Update- 26 Weeks

Total Weight Gain- about 14 pounds

Sleep-  Hasn’t been too awful this month.

Symptoms- The nausea has been getting better, but not totally gone.  Hello body?!? It’s time to get with the program!!   I have been progressively cutting down on the last anti-nausea med, and am now on 1/4 of a tablet once a day.  We just cut to that amount and I can definitely feel the queasiness creeping back.  No projectile vomiting, so I can handle it.  I’m looking forward to it leaving me completely alone! Unfortunately the nausea has mostly been replaced with horrible heartburn.  I can’t believe it’s already started this early.  I’m popping tums daily, and occasionally have to use my Zantac, when I start to choke because I feel the acids bubbling into my throat.  Whoever tells you pregnancy is pleasant time is lying.  It sucks.  But so so so worth it to bring you into this world.   The aches and pains during the second pregnancy are also much worse.  My hips are already hurting some, and I get a lot of random pains.  I still have 14 weeks to go, yikes!

Cravings- Still eating a lot of fruit.  I have an apple every morning still, and normally at least one other fruit for an afternoon snack.  The leftover Halloween candy has also been quite dangerous.   I’m pretty sure you’re going to love sweet things when you grow up!

Nursery- The old office (now going to be your nursery) is completely empty now.  The floors have been repaired, the closet has been redone for you, and the holes in the wall patched.  Lucas has thoroughly enjoyed riding his bike in circles in the empty room.   Next week we will buy the paint (non-toxic of course), and put up new quarter round on the floor, and chair rail on the walls, and then Daddy will paint.  We’re impatiently waiting for your furniture and chair to be delivered so that I can get a feel for what else we need.   In my head it all looks great- haha!

Baby- You are about 14 inches long, and approximately 2 lbs.  Your eyes are getting ready to open, and your eyelashes are complete.  I’m sure you’re going to be batting those pretty little lashes at Daddy and I to get whatever you want!  You are also breathing in amniotic fluid to get your lungs ready for that first breath of air.  You are a squirmer, and love to kick, punch, and flip.  I can actually SEE my belly moving, not just feel it.  Incredible!  You can hear our conversations, and know our voices.  Keep growing baby girl!
