Ralphie 1

SO,  the shock of being pregnant after having my first emergency surgery wore off after about half a day and the excitement and happiness started to set in.   Keep in mind, I knew I could be pregnant this month, I just was kind of hoping to start over with a clean bill of health next month.   Admist my freaking out over the possible medical implications of being in the hospital that same week, Will decided that if our baby was born retarded (sorry, totally not pc), then we would name it Ralphie.  HA!  So, for now, our fetus is also known as Ralphie.

I’m fortunate to work in a fertility clinic where I can speak with a specialist whenever I want to, so on Monday I told my boss that I was pregnant and freaking out about  the medications, radiation, and surgery that I had.  He told me I had absolutely nothing to worry about because I had only been 2 days pregnant at the time, and the embryo hadn’t implanted into my uterus yet.   WHEW!  That was a major relief.   If we had gotten pregnant last month (the first month we started “trying”) then it could have been disastrous.   Just to be sure, we had my blood drawn Monday and got an hCG level of 52 at 10 days past ovulation, which is a very strong number.  However, the real test is to see if the  hCG numbers double approximately every 2 days.  So, on Wednesday I had it drawn, and got a level of 117 (so relieved!), and again on Friday for a level of 220.   So far, so good!
