December (17.5 Months-ish) 1

Dear Little Lucas Walter,

It’s time again for your monthly recap (well actually I’m a month late due to technical difficulties).  Regardless, it was a fun month!  First of all, your Poppy was able to come home from Australia to visit for a week in early December!  He brought you tons and tons of presents!    You love to say his name Pop-pop! Pop-pop!   When he’s back in Australia (where Grammy is too now), we call them on Skype and you always ask for Pop-pop.  You can’t say Grammy yet, but I’m sure it’s coming soon.    Also in December was the first night I ever spent the night away from you.   Your cousin Kelly got married in Louisville and you were sick so you stayed home with Elyse, and Daddy and I went in to Louisville and stayed at The Galt House for the wedding.  It was a fun night, but we sure missed you!

Another important even this month was Christmas! The weekend before Christmas we went down to Tennessee to celebrate with all of your cousins, Aunt Jera, Uncle Kevin, Uncle BJ, Aunt Mischele, your Grandaddy, Granny Pat, Gramma, and Papa Mike.  You got lots of cool toys, and even more lovin from all your family who don’t get to see you much.   You even got to watch your cousins Camron and Nathan play in their basketball games.  You LOVED watching them playing and would clap anytime a basket went in.  Although I made the mistake of letting you on the court at half time during the last game and you got REALLY mad when I took you back off.   You loved trying to steal cigarettes out of your Grandaddy’s pockets, and you loved swinging on the front porch with your Gramma.   You also spent the entire weekend playing ball with your cousins.

Speaking of playing ball, it is your favorite thing.  You try to dribble with both hands and love love love to shoot.  Daddy has raised the goal up so high that you really have to shoot the ball instead of just slam dunking it in.   On Christmas Day Aunt Katie got you another basketball goal to keep at Grammy and Poppy’s house since you love it so much.   For actual Christmas Day, we drove into Louisville and spent the day with Uncle Michael, and Aunt Katie, and other family members.  You had your annual new Christmas jammies on, and Uncle Michel wore my Pop’s (Poppy’s Dad) traditional Christmas pants.  We also played the traditional Christmas music.  It was so much fun to see all the stuff Santa brought you, in addition to all the stuff you got from us (Mama and Dada), and from your Aunt and Uncle.  Grammy and Poppy even left some bonus gifts for you under the tree even though they couldn’t be there.  Uncle Joey was also out of town, but we sure made up for it with the stuff you got to open.   You really enjoyed opening and playing with all of your toys.  You got cars, and talking pigs, and hats, and a circus tent, and a stuffed animal twice as big as you, a mini-4 wheeler, and hammering set, books, clothes, tunnels, but as soon as you opened your basketball goal that was all you wanted to play with for the next couple of hours!  I had to open the last couple of presents for you since you were so preoccupied with basketball.   We all had so much fun watching your Christmas morning joy.   Later on in the day, we made a huge feast and Aunt Christe, Uncle Potter, Uncle Randy, and Cousin Kelly, and Max came over to celebrate.    Of course later on that night we played a vicious game of Catch Phrase with more friends who always come on Christmas night (Hi Mike Slat and Nina!).

You’ve also taken to loving to watch basketball games on tv.  You beg for us to turn it on then Oooooo and ahhhhh at the tv as players make baskets and slam dunk.  You’ll yell at it like Daddy, and cheer and clap.   It’s so cute.  I told your Dada that he couldn’t have gotten a more perfect son, you’re like a little mini-me.  You love basketball, singing, and playing music.  Just like your Dad.   Speaking of singing, you now sing along with any tune or song you hear.  So cute especially since you can’t actually say the words.    You even tried to sing a tune to an ambulance that drove by, just like the dog does. Hahaha!

You are saying some words and seem on the verge of talking up a storm.  Right now you say:  Mama, Dada, hot, up, book, duck, nana (banana), Pop-pop, bye bye, baa (ball), vroom vroom, peek!, and will make ruff ruff noises for a dog, snorts for a pig, quack quack for ducks, baaaaaaa for a sheep, and rawr for a bear.

Me and Dada were off work and home with you for almost 2 weeks over the Christmas break so you got very attached and loved getting all the loving from us.  Although when we got home, you quickly got back into your routine.  You were SO happy to see Rylie when you guys were finally reunited.  Elyse told me you ran up to each other full of smiles and hugs.   Graham was also pleased to come back to the house, but is still young, so can’t walk yet.  You do like to lay your head on top of him to hug him.

Oh! And I almost forgot, a modeling agency out of Cincinnati saw your most recent photoshoot and asked us to come up for a meeting.  They ended up liking you and we signed a 2 year contract with them.  You are such a beautiful boy, inside and out.  Hopefully some clients in this area are looking for a blond haired, blue eyed toddler so we can make some extra bucks for your college fund.

2013 ended with you and me being sick, but at least we were snuggled together.  At midnight on Dec 31st as the ball dropped, Dada and I watched it on tv, and kissed together over your head as we held you.  Even though we were sick, it still was magical to start the New Year with our most amazing gift in our arms.  Welcome 2014 and whatever awesomeness it may bring!
