Dear Lucas Walter,

You are ONE! ONE! ONE!  Oh my!   This year has absolutely flown by.  We love you more than we ever thought possible.  You’re such a sweet little boy (and sometimes rotten!)     This post is all about your birthday.

One year ago on July 19th, 2012 at 6:57pm, the most precious, smart, adorable, loving baby boy was born.  I love you Lucas Walter Atkinson, I wouldn’t change this year for anything!

The morning of your birthday when you woke up, Daddy and I sang you happy birthday as soon as you opened your eyes- you wondered what in the world was going on!  Daddy made you a pancake in the shape of a 1 for breakfast, and you made all kinds of faces when you tried the pancake for the first time.    I took a half day at work so that I could come home and spend time with you on your birthday and get ready for your party.    Friends and family came from near and far for your party.  It was a blast!!  I did a couple different photo projects for you- one had your monthly red chair pictures hanging, and the other had about a hundred photos from birth through now (in order) hanging.  There were at least 50 balloons, and tons of other decorations.  I also baked cookies in the shape of guitars, and music notes,  and made mini cupcake things that looked like microphones.  You must realize how much Mommy loves you if I baked!  We also made a huge crockpot full of pulled pork, and we had beans, potato salad, cole slaw, chips, and an amazing cookies & cream ice cream cake.

We gave you your own chocolate smash cake, and you delicately put one finger in it and just dabbed it in there then licked off your finger.  So, we helped you out a little by helping you dig in.  I think you really liked the chocolate!   You got tons of toys, and gifts and a good time was had by all.   We set up a pool in the backyward, and a water table, and big umbrella too.  It was hot (like 90 degrees!) outside.  I’m definitely glad birthdays are only once a year- it was hard work      But truly, it really did turn out great.  We love you our big one year old boy.
